Scotland the Brave (Bagpipes)

Stonewallmatze asked:

"Scotland the Brave" (Scottish Gaelic: Alba an Aigh) is a patriotic song and one of the main contenders to be considered as a national anthem of Scotland. In June 2006, the song came second to Flower of Scotland in an online poll with more than 10000 votes to determine the nation's favourite unofficial "anthem". The song is used to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games. Scotland the Brave is also the authorised pipe band march of The British Columbia Dragoons of the Canadian Forces and is played during the Pass in Review at Friday parades at The Citadel. In 2006, it was adopted as the regimental quick march of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Scotland the Brave (Alba an Aigh en gaélique écossais) est, avec The Flower of Scotland, l'hymne national écossais. @NickerSkids I know one from the battle of El Alamien, when the scots and aussies where sent forward at night towards the german/itlian line one piper was said to be playing he pipes all the way through the assault. He was found later that night with a bullet wound inbetween his eyes, his hands still clutching the pipes

The best piping story i heard was about a guy called Bill Mullen , a 19 year old glasgow boy on the Normandy beach. A 1000 scared soldiers jumped off the landing craft on D-day and many lit up when they heard Bill playing between the bullets along the sand. I believe bIll is still alive.

this song reminds me of where i was born. every friday evening the lighthouse keeper would play his bagpipes and play this song. although i only lived there until i was three and then moved closer to my dad’s work, i still remembered this song crystal clear.

A good friend of mine who once visited Scotland to see some family told me a story about how he got hammered at a bar. He goes, ” I had a couple heavy drinks at a bar in Scotland. Fell off my bar stool, and this buffed guy next to me goes, ‘Git up off yer arse and finish it up boy’” Made me want to go to Scotland and get hammered
